Allow disabling of Solr<->Alfresco SSL communication without having to change web.xml

    Details

      Description

      Original Issue Requirement

Currently in order to disable Solr <--> Alfresco communication a complex, error-prone and risky (involves patching the web.xml of both Alfresco and Solr) is required.

      This is unofficially documented at:
      http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Alfresco_And_SOLR#Running_Without_SSL

      http://deepak-keswani.blogspot.com/2012/12/configure-solr-and-alfresco-to-use-http.html

Since most customer disable SSL anyway (almost all of them in Dev or Test environment) It would be very beneficial to enhance the Solr <--> Alfresco authentication mechanism to simply honor the configuration properties found respectively in alfresco-global.properties and solrcore.properties.

In other words we would like that:

      • simply setting solr.secureComms=none in alfresco-global.properties would disable Alfresco --> Solr SSL communication
      • simply setting alfresco.secureComms=none in solrcore.properties would disable Solr --> Alfresco SSL communication

This is very intuitive and doesn't not require core webapp changes.

Please see this and this comment for the final spec, following discussions with Eng.
