At the latest Alfresco 3.4.5 version it's really not possible to mount Alfresco WebDAV location as network drive on Windows XP. It seems like QA had have problems with mounting on Windows XP because they advised to use WebDrive before their further investigation in accordance with
There's the Windows XP WebDAV redirector incompatibility in Alfresco 'PROPFIND' response generating logic. WebDAV Redirector in Windows XP can't parse normally 'PROPFIND' response which is not compactly formatted i.e. which contains indenting white spaces, carriage return, etc. (or 'pretty' formed). Currently, 'PROPFIND' responses in Alfresco WebDAV will be always 'pretty' formatted (see org.alfresco.repo.webdav.WebDAVMethod.createXMLWriter() for more details). Network drive mounting finishes with 'Invalid directory' or 'Network path not found' error in this case. This is not well known issue and it was resolved after reverse engineering of M$ WebDAV libraries. Latest updates for Windows XP SP3 don't resolve this problem. For more details about this issue please take a look at:
WebDAV redirectors send 'User-Agent' HTTP header using 'Microsoft-WebDAV-MiniRedir/x.x.xxxx'-like pattern. Complete list of the Redirector versions, relations between redirector versions and OSes and about known issues with redirectors see:
'PROPFIND' responses for 'Microsoft-WebDAV-MiniRedir/5.1.' user agent must be always compactly formed to fix mounting problem on Windows XP. All required changes may be found at 'propfind-wincdowsxp-compatible.diff' attachment. This fix doesn't affect Windows 7 and Vista since version of the Redirectors in these OSes is 6.. Fix tested on Alfresco 3.4.5 (r29748) schema 4204 using Windows 7, Windows Vista SP2 and Windows XP SP3 with Office 2007 and 2003 as clients respectively. Original problem was not reproduced.
