As a developer building solutions on top of Alfresco, I want to be able to attach custom metadata to categories in Alfresco so that I can attach specific property information to the category and find that information for all content that receives that category.
Specific use cases:
- Organizations that have large category taxonomies and want to make it easier to find specific category items.
- Assigning documents to data entities from an external system like an ERP. Those data entities (debitor, project and task) could be synchronised as categories with some metadata. The metadata would capture address information for the client, names of responsible users for projects and tasks, start/due/end dates etc. That metadata could then drive an auto-complete widget in a form to simplify assigning a category to a document. This eliminates the need to pull that metadata from an external system (see the Metadata DB add-on) and reduces the dependency on that external system being up.
