When importing a custom model and running a DATE function against it on table for example:
select expense_ExpenseDate from alfresco
tableau recognised the expense_ExpenseDate field as a string.
When we use cm_modified and cm_created for example which are DateTime fields, tableau recognises these fields as DATES.
for example: select cm_created from alfresco
- Understand why the fields in a custom model, although defined as a DATE/DATETIME don't get recognised as a DATE/DATETIME field on tableau
- Implement a fix so that when fields are added to a custom model as a DATE or DATETIME data type they get recognised as a DATE or DATETIME and not a string
- Test the fix, with fields from a custom model definied as a DATE or DATETIME are recognised as a DATE/DATETIME on tableau
Updated driver provided by Cdata has partially resolved the issue, in that custom date fields are correctly recognized as dates by Tableau in the following circumstances:
- The query used by Tableau to generate the data source must contain a non-NULL date value for the custom date field within the first 1000 returned rows
Therefore this issue is limited to custom dates where large numbers of records are likely to have a NULL value.
Work done for this ticket so far was expected to resolve this issue, but appears to have been ineffective. Further investigation required.
