Following on from ACE-2091, we need to "spin out" the Explorer UI codebase as an open source project. The guidelines for doing this are documented here.
The spun out project should be available as an AMP that can be deployed to, and functions on the latest released versions of Alfresco on-premises (i.e. Community & Enterprise). At that point maintenance is handed over to the community and further updates (i.e. to keep it functional on newer versions of Alfresco) are the responsibility of the community-led project team that forms around the project.

We will be making this a separate repository in the Alfresco GitHub project.

Kevin Roast and I moved the source code for Alfresco Explorer to a separate GitHub project:
It does not yet build as an AMP, but we did some research to identify what needs to be done. I recommend we close this issue, and create new ones for any remaining effort that might be necessary to support those who choose to maintain this project, once we understand those requirements.
It doesn't look like I have permission to resolve this issue, so I would appreciate someone doing it for me.
