 Description

Description
Referenced forms in user task is not reverted back to older version when reverting to an older process version

Steps to reproduce
1. Via app designer create a new process.
2. Add a Start Event, User Task and End Event as followed:
start event -> User task -> end event
3. Configure a Referenced Form for the User Task with 2 text fields:
<text field A> <text field B>
4. Save the form, the process and close the process
5. Open the same process model again in the visual editor and go to User Task --> Referenced form.
6. Open the referenced form and edit it, e.g. remove the existing text fields and replace them with Dropdowns:
<dropdown A> <dropdown b>
7. Save the Form and save the process as a new version
8. On the process preview page, click the top right "History" button, select the older version of the process model and click the "Use as new version" button.
9. Open the process in editor mode again and open the referenced form in visual editor and inspect it

Expected Behaviour
The form should have been reverted to the form used in that process version, i.e.
<text field A> <text field B>

Observed Behaviour
The form was not reverted to the form used in that olde rrpocess version, but is still using the latest form, i.e.
<dropdown A> <dropdown b>

This is expected behavior. APS App Designer does not have granular versioning implemented with the objects within it.

For example, a process that has a user task with a referenced form, that form is a separate entity then the process which in itself is an entity.

If you were to open the form by navigating to the task in the process and clicking on 'referenced form' > 'open' what is listed for selection will always be the most current version of the forms available.

Until the process is published, it will always point the 'referenced form(s)' to the most current version of that form.
If you revert the process, you would need to also manually revert the form version to the older version as well in the App Designer > Forms list.

Workaround/Process for reverting

  • When you revert a process, you should revert the 'form' and other referenced objects in App Designer as well.

The request to modify the handling of linked versions of entities in the App Designer to each other, is an improvement request not a bug, as it is currently the expected behavior.
